Toenail and fingernail care. Changes in your nails can be part of the aging process, or they can indicate health issues or poor nutrition. Toenail fungal infections are common, and bacterial infections around the nail often bleed or discharge and can be quite painful. Ingrown toenails hurt and require medical attention. Most importantly, bruised areas under nails can be melanomas (skin cancers). If they do not lighten, or get larger, you need to seek medical attention.
